MONTE SAN SAVINO

MONTE SAN SAVINO TRAVEL GUIDE AND TOURISM
Valdichiana, Arezzo

Monte San Savino (about 9 000 inhabitants), is an interesting town in the Val di Chiana in the province of Arezzo, situated on a hill about 330 meters high, the village presents late medieval and Renaissance buildings.

The first evidence about Monte San Savino date from the thirteenth century when it was a castle of the Ubertini, during this period it was bitterly contested between Arezzo and Florence, Florence prevailed in 1385 and since then Monte San Savino was under the power of the Florentines. The town had considerable development between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, when interesting buildings were built, it was erected in vicarship, and in this period settled there a very important Jewish community that remained until 1799.
