Back to Salone dei Cinquecento. The Quartiere of Pope Leone X, is found at the first floor of Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace), it was restructured from George Vasari in 1555-62. The decorations are of the same Vasari and Gino Lorenzi, and are dedicated to the more illustrious personages of the Medici family and to their enterprises. These rooms have been used, in the last years, as representation rooms from the Mayor of Florence, today they have been partially open to the tourists, comprised the former representation office of the Mayor (Sala di Leone X and Sala di Clemente VII). |

The Hall dedicated to Leone X is the main room of the quarter, realized from Vasari between 1555 and 1562, it has square plant and it still has the original pavement in white and red terracotta work of Santi di Michele Buglioni; the wooden ceiling to "lacunari" of the room, carved and golden, is work of Antonio di Rombolo detto il Crocino, Domenico del Tasso and of Mariotto di Francesco; the golden plasters to the walls are work of Leonardo Ricciarelli and Giovanni Boscoli. The scenes represented in the hall represent important episodes of the life of Leone X and are work of Vasari and of Giovanni Stradano, on the three main walls are three paintings walls that represent: The Visit of Leone X to Florence; The conquest of San Leo; The Election from part of Leone X of numerous cardinals. | |||

The Hall of Clemente VII, constructed and decorated from the Vasari between 1556 and 1562 it is dedicated to the second pope of the Medici family, it has a pavement in red and white terracotta with the symbols of Clemente VII, and is decorated with the more important episodes of its life. To the center of the ceiling is the scene that represents Clemente VII that crown Carlo V emperor in San Petronio in Bologna, work of Vasari and Giovanni Stradano. To the walls are found the events of the war of 1529-1530 between Florence and the imperial army: with pictures of the Tuscany cities of Pistoia, Lastra a Signa, Empoli and Volterra all works of Giovanni Stradano, of the same author is the great picture of the city of Florence under siege. | |||
