Gambassi Terme is a renowned spa town which is located in the hills overlooking the Val d'Elsa, near Florence, from which is 54 km away.

Due to its location along major roads of communication, such as the Etruscan road to Volterra or the Via Clodia between Siena and Lucca, the area of Gambassi was inhabited since ancient times, in the Middle Ages Gambassi was along the famous Via Francigena. Only in 1917, Gambassi became an independent municipality, until then had been part of the town of Montaione.
