SAN CASCIANO VAL DI PESA TRAVEL GUIDE
Val d'Elsa Fiorentina, Florence

San Casciano in Val di Pesa (16 800 inhabitants) is a village located at 310 meters above sea level, between the Chianti hills in the province of Florence, which is about 22 km.

San Casciano was already a trading post in Roman times, the village developed in the Middle Ages at the meeting point between the Strada Regia Romana and an important road that connected the Val di Pesa and Val di Greve. San Casciano became, by 1272, possession of the Republic of Florence, the town was the seat of the Podestà. Between 1355 and 1356 the village of San Casciano was fortified and walled with towers and a keep.

In a suburb of San Casciano, called The Albergaccio (Sant'Andrea in Percussina) in 1512 lived Niccolò Machiavelli.
