Palazzo dei Vicari is the building that characterizes the whole Scarperia, its facade, the one that overlooks the main square, is a classic and austere residence, while it has the shape of a fortress on the back. The palace complex is formed at the base by leaning walls and high tower that comes from the right corner of the facade. The facade is also adorned by an incredible number of coat of arms of Florentine vicars, in stone and tile.
The inner courtyard is characterized by frescoes of the fourteenth and fifteenth century, which contrast with the severe aspect of the exterior facade. You enter the palace by a staircase, that at the landing has a beautiful fresco of the fifteenth century depicting St. Christopher. In the rooms on the first floor are other frescoes. In the Palazzo dei Vicari is secure an artistic heritage that includes coat of arms made by the Florentine workshop of the Della Robbia, and numerous frescoes of the Florentine school. Palazzo dei Vicari also houses the Museum of Knives and the public library.
In the same square where is the Palazzo dei Vicari, are the Prepositurale Church and cloister of the 15th century and the Oratorio della Madonna di Piazza with frescoes and a Madonna and Child (14th century) by Jacopo di Casentino.
