Tavarnelle Val di Pesa is a village located at about 378 meters above sea level in the hills of Chianti in the province of Florence, from which is about 32 km.
Tavarnelle Val di Pesa was born in the Middle Ages as a post along the Via Regia Romana, that from Florence led to the via Francigena and Val d'Elsa, his old name was Tabernulae. The village was never surrounded by walls and was only important from a commercial perspective, Tavarnelle until 1893 was part of the municipality of Barberino Val d'Elsa.
Tavarnelle arose from the union of three villages: Tavarnelle, Borghetto and Mocale. Among the most ancient historical evidence are the former Franciscan convent of Borghetto, built in the thirteenth century, and the Romanesque church of San Pietro in Bossolo dating from the tenth century.
