Maremma Natural Park is located in Southern Tuscany and is part of the Province of Grosseto. It includes a strip of coast of about nine thousand and eight hundred hectares which spreads from the town of Principina a Mare, to the north, up to Talamone promontory, to the south. The main part of the Park is characterised by the Uccellina Mountains, a chain of hills parallel to the coast and covered by the thick Mediterranean maquis, which ends with the Lecci Hill ( Poggio Lecci). The northern area of the Park is flat and characterised by flood-lands which were formed by the sediments transported by the river Ombrone, near whose mouth one can see the typical palustrine environments denominated Palude della Trappola. From a naturalistic point of view, the complex formed by Uccellina Mountains, the pinewood of Marina di Alberese, the mouth of the river Ombrone, and the Paludi della Trappola represents a precious mosaic of ecosystems shaped by man in different periods and ways, characterizing the landscape without degrading it. The coast, which has developed for about twenty kilometres, is a succession of sandy shores which stretch from the Ombrone mouth to Cala di Forno, where the Uccellina mountains create cliffs which continue up to Talamone promontory. The average temperature is around six grades in January and around twenty four grades in August. The average yearly rainfall is of around six hundred and ninety millimetres, with maximum points in November- December and minimum points in July-August. Summers are generally almost dry.
