SORANO

 

Sorano rises, at a short distance from Pitigliano and Sovana, at the extreme south of Tuscany in the area known as “the zone of the Tufe”. Sorano is a wonderful medieval village situated along the valley of Lente River, in a landscape of great suggestion. The village is dominated from the Rocca degli Orsini (Orsini Fortress), built in origin in 14th, but completely restructured in 1552, while in the center of the ancient village is found the Sasso Leopoldino, a cliff fortified in 18th century with the construction of a high wall and a square shaped bastion.  

 

It convene to park the car in the area of the Fortress, then visit the fortress and the museum, and later along a beautiful medieval road reach the heart of the historical center where the Sasso Leopoldino is found, from the old ghetto rich of characteristic alleys, bows, scales, logge, wine cellars dug in the tufe we can exit from the village across the Merli Gate (Porta dei Merli), and from here going down we'll reach the Lente River, beyond which begin the famouses "Vie Cave".

The visit continue to the Rocca Orsini (Orsini Fortress).
