Sorano is dominated by the fortress of the Orsini, originally built in fourteenth century but completely renovated in 1552, the fortress is one of the most remarkable performances of military architecture of the Italian Renaissance.

The architect who renovated it in 1552, was Anton Maria Lari, he built a fortress to protect the ramparts, in which the two courts were protected by ditches.
Inside the fortress there is a museum of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, including illuminated manuscripts, frescoes and other archaeological finds, you can visit the ancient medieval paths and keep.
