The Torraccia lies along the road that leads from San Vincenzo to Piombino (halfway between the two locations), came from San Vincenzo, the Torraccia, is on the left of the road a few km before the junction for Baratti. The tower, due to the advancement of coastline, is currently about 100 meters from the sea.
The Torraccia was in origin built from Pisa and later on restructure from Florence during the government of Cosimo I (1537-1574), to memory of these works on a side of the tower was put a stone slab with written “Cosmus Med. Florentie ET Senatur: Dux II”. The tower was disarmed, after little more than one hundred years from its restructure, because the changes in the coastal line, on its place was erected another structure called Torrenuova. Under Torraccia flowed the gutter of the Rimigliano lake, now dried up. The tower has a height of approximately 14,50 meters.
