Situated in Garfagnana, Coreglia Antelminelli is a beautiful village at 595 amsl, with on the background the Appennins montains range. For reach Coreglia, from Lucca are about 40 km, we follow the course of the Serchio river along the road n°12 untill Borgo a Mozzano, after passed the Ponte del Diavolo, we turn to the left in direction of Barga and the Castelnuovo Garfagnana. After passed the village of Ghivizzano (about 9 km from Borgo a Mozzano), turn on the right following the indication to Coreglia Antelminelli 7 km more and we arrived in the village.  

Coreglia Antelminelli, he was before feud of the Rolandinghi lords of Loppia, therefore outpost of the Lucca Republic. It was fortress of the Guelph faction, and in 1316 it resisted to Castruccio Castracani, that after 58 days of siege succeeded to occupy it only thank to the deceit. He improved ulteriorly the defense, subsequently, towards the half of the 14th century, was thanks to Francisco Castracani (Count of Coreglia), that Coreglia reachd the maximum splendor. Beginning from 1369 the center of the ancient vicariate passed from Coreglia to Borgo a Mozzano. Coreglia remained always faithful to Lucca. Such fidelity was rewarded from the Republic of Lucca in 1562 with the constituction of the Commissariato of Coreglia that practically gave life to the still today existing communal entity.

To memory of the Antelminelli family, that in this territory, in the Middle Ages, were first vicari then count, the village of Coreglia with ministerial decree of 1862 had the denomination of Coreglia Antelminelli. Coreglia was the native land of the first “figuristi” that diffused in the world the art of the plaster.

Between the monuments of Coreglia we remember: the ancient protoromanesque church of S. Martino, the Romanesque church of S. Michele with the big bell tower and numerous works of sculpture between which S. Michele and the Annunciation of 14th century. As regards military architecture, of remarkable interest are: the rests of the ancient fortress, to its inside are galleries, the fort, the gates, the walls of medieval age (northern side) and renaissance age (southern side).
