VERSILIA TRAVEL GUIDE |
Versilia, Lucca |
Versilia, namely the Tuscan coast between the mouth of the river Serchio and the river Magra, with in the center the cities of Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta is certainly the most popular holiday coastal area of Tuscany.
The countryside of Versilia is formed by a large flat area near the coast covered by vast pine forests, planted in the nineteenth century to repair the plain from salty winds, the coast is characterized by wide beaches where you can have magnificent views of the nearby Apuan Alps.

Characterized by great vitality and nightlife this area is seen as the Tyrrhenian alternative to the Adriatic Rimini, the expansion of settlements inhabited along the Versilia coast has resulted, in part, the destruction of coastal dunes and Mediterranean vegetation that once dominated the coastal environment and the sacrifice of some of the famous pinewoods. |
