Casole d'Elsa (3600 inhabitants (2008), 417 meters high) is a beautiful medieval village situated in dominant position on a hill about 14 km from Colle Val d'Elsa.
Casole d'Elsa's story dates back to the eleventh century when Volterra founded the site of a castle in the place of the current village, it expanded with the passage of time and became possession of Siena in the thirteenth century.
Among the buildings of merit is the Collegiate Church, built in the twelfth century, with many works of art, among them the Cenotaph of Beltrami Aringhieri a Gothic work of the fourteenth century by Marco Romano. Next to the Collegiate Church is the Rectory, building of the beginning of the fifteenth century, which houses the Archaeological and Collagiate Museum. Also interesting are the Praetorian Palace and the Rocca Senese both dating to the fourteenth century.
