Castelnuovo Berardenga (about 8,900 inhabitants), is an interesting village of Chianti near Siena, located at the southern end of the Chianti hills at the point where begin the clay soils that make up the Crete Senesi. 

The name Berardenga derives from the fact that this territory since the tenth century formed the "Terra Berardinga", an area under the control of the noble Berardo. Castelnuovo Berardenga is located on a hill about 350 meters above sea level, among Ombrone river and Malena stream and is the southernmost municipality of Chianti. 

Castelnuovo was the last castle in the area founded by the Republic of Siena, it was built in 1366, of the old castle today there are only a few remains of the tower and walls. The village is divided into a high area, the Castle, and in a low area, the Borgo. 

Among the things to see in the village: the civic clock tower, from eighteenth-century characters, which originally was part of the system of fortifications; the nineteenth-century Villa Chigi Saracini with its park and the Chapel of San Giovanni; the churches of the nineteenth century SS. Giusto and Clemente and della Compagnia; the Tabernacle of the sixteenth century on the place of the discovery of the image of Maria SS. of Advocacy.
