Chianti, Siena

To get to Radda, from Firenze Certosa, follow the signs to Greve in Chianti, Panzano and Radda. Or take the highway Florence-Siena and exit at San Donato, and then continue towards Castellina in Chianti and Radda. From Siena North take the SS 408 towards Castellina in Chianti and Radda. 

Radda in Chianti, is a medieval village of Etruscan origins, today seat of the Consorzio del Vino Chianti Gallo Nero is located at 530 meters above sea level. The first documents that refer to Radda goes back to the eleventh century AD, from the thirteenth century the castle was a dominion of the Counts Guidi. In the fourteenth century Radda was part of the countryside of Florence that granted the Podestà, in 1384 it was the chief town of the Chianti League, the Palazzo del Podestà (15th century) still has the arms of the Podestà, which took place on the government of Radda, under the loggia of the palace there is an interesting fresco of Florentine school. Radda still keep the circle of its ancient walls and the elliptical elongated structure of the medieval town. In the immediate vicinity of Radda is the Franciscan convent of Santa Maria, seventeenth-century building with a porch and the church in neo-Gothic style. Surrounding medieval villages well preserved are Volpaia, Monterinaldi, Castelvecchi and Montemuro.
