| Along the road SS n°73 that from Siena goes to Roccastrada, a few kms after to have passed the village of Rosia, before the crossroad with the road SS n°541, lies, on the left of the road (coming from Siena) the Pia's Bridge (Ponte della Pia). | ||||||||||||||||||

| The bridge that climb over the Rosia stream with an only one arched was a time one of the main passages on the old via Massetana that connected Siena with Massa Marittima and the Metalliferous Hills (Colline Metallifere). The construction of the bridge probably laughed to the first years of 13th century.

Going beyond on foot the Pia's Bridge (Ponte della Pia), are reached in a few minutes the ruins of the ancient monastery of S.Lucia, beyond the bridge we find an ancient pavement road, this road was probably rebuilt in 15th century and named “Manliana Road”, the bridge could have been constructed just for the passage of the monks of the heremitage. To the bridge a legend is connected also, according to which, during the nights without moon, appears, in proximity of this place, the ghost of a woman, with a veil that covers the face, that she walks on the Bridge without to touch earth. |
