Florence has not, unfortunately, a major international airport – as would be desirable given the tourist importance of Florence in the world – but only a small city airport. To reach the airport in Florence from intercontinental destinations you need to stop and change your flight, in European airports such as Paris, Rome, Munich or Frankfurt. FLORENCE-PERETOLA AIRPORT “Amerigo Vespucci”

Florence Airport “Amerigo Vespucci” (FLR) is 6 km north-west of Florence downtown. The others nearest airports to Florence are in Pisa (100 km) and Bologna (100 km).

The airport has an arrivals terminal and departures terminal. Inside the Departures Terminal are available 23 passenger check-in desks.

How to get by plane to Florence. Florence airport is served by about twenty airlines. These include Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Lufthansa, Iberia, KLM and Vueling.

GETTING THERE:
CAR:

To reach Florence airport by car, from the Autostrada del Sole (A1) you should take the A11 motorway towards Florence, then after covering the large roundabout after the end of the Highway, returning to the Firenze-Mare (A11), here at the traffic lights turn to the right towards the Airport. While coming from Florence follow the entire Viale Guidoni until the start of the Firenze-Mare (A11), here at the traffic lights turn to the right towards the Airport.

Florence airport is within short distance from all major towns of Tuscany: Prato (15 km), Pistoia (29 km), Montecatini (41 km), Lucca (65 km), Siena (83 km), Arezzo (94 km), Pisa (91 km), Livorno (111 km), Massa (112 km), Carrara (116 km), Grosseto (156 km).

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

The airport is connected to the city center of Florence, with a taxi (about 15 minutes) service, and a bus Sita/Ataf (in about 20 minutes) service linking the airport to the train station Florence-Santa Maria Novella. There are also bus links with the cities of Prato, Pistoia, Montecatini Terme and the Pisa airport.

TRAMVIA: A new TramVia line connects the airport with the central station of Florence Santa Maria Novella.

TAXI: the terminus of taxi is in front of the arrivals terminal, the Taxi can be called with the radio taxi service (tel. 055.4242/4390/4499/4798). The journey by taxi from the airport to the center of Florence is approximately 15 minutes.

Rates: Weekdays from 06.00 to 22.00 euro 20.00. Public holidays from 06.00 to 22.00 euro 22.00. Night rate from 22.00 to 6.00 euros 23.30. EUR Tarif luggage 1.00 each bag.

PARKING:

In the Airport there are two types of parking spaces:

Short stay parking (241 spaces for a fee):

Rates (including VAT):
– First 20 minutes: free
– The first time / suburb: Euro 2.00
– The second time / suburb: Euro 3.00 per hour
– Daily: Euro 25.00

Long stay parking (640 parking fee, kept 24 hours on 24):

Rates:
– The first 5 hours: Euro 1.00 per hour
– 6 / 12 hours: Euro 6.00 (forfait)
– Daily: Euro 10.00
